Ok it actually worked just fine. I'm not sure what I did. I created a new material, changed the texture type few times from tiff to png back and forth.

Hi,
I want to bake out a low poly asset from imported low poly mesh. The mesh uses texture for color and alpha, like in a picture.
I want to make another hyper low poly asset. I've tried using baking tools from Labs, but it seams they only work for point or prim attribs. They completely ignore my material.
So now I'm thinking... is there a way to transfer material texture (Cd, Alpha) to point attribute?
There is this Attrib From Map SOP. It transfers some color, but it's not right. And it doesn't transfer alpha at all.

Ok so I checked today. And I have to say it finally recognize my GPU (GTX 1060). I might not have restarted the system after installing the drivers.
And the drivers Im using are proprietary Nvidia drivers. Exactly says:
Using NVIDIA driver metapackage from nvidia-driver-390(poprietary, tested)
Ive read about this Secure Boot and Im not so sure if I want to disable it now. Lets wait a day or two and see if I keep getting crashes and issues with viewport.

goldleafYeah did that too. And now I cannot even start Houdini. It completely freeze after splashscreen when the main window loads up.
The Proprietary Nvidia drivers, if you haven't already
Gonna try other distribution, as this might be an actual GPU failure. This is a brand new GPU card, so rather unlikely, but….

Which version of Ubuntu are you using? The recommended one from SideFX is LTS 14. I find that Mint 18 had great support for Houdini
Im running 18.04 LTS

Hi,
Just build a new machine, installed new Ubuntu and Houdini.
But Im getting some issues with display and in general. When I run help window Im getting weird display failures. Like GPU is failing or completely freeze the whole system.

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » popnet (scatter) issue

I used emission type: points. But found out that I had pressed ‘template’ on the source node. So the popnet was working fine, but templated points was on the top of the ones created by source node - which just looked like there is no movement at all

Hi,
I use some circle node as an emitter and everything is working fine.
But when I change my source node to scatter, the popnet is not working properly. None of the nodes inside popnet are affecting particles. I dont get any errors.

Check the file size of your .hip, is it larger than you expect? Maybe the .hip is corrupt you might need to rebuild (ie. opscript out your scene into a file and re-run it in a brand new session with the latest production build)
Hi,
sorry for so late answer.
Unfortunately this issue happens on my all files, even empty scenes…

Hi,
I get houdini freeze very often. I dont know is it houdini or is it something I do wrong.
Just every now and then my cursor changes to panning hand (u know this cursor when u pan the view) and I cant do anything.
So I make fast CTRL+S and kill houdini from task manager (cant even close houdini window). Sometimes even CTRL+S does nothing.
And when I reopen the saved scene I always get loading warnings:
“warning: problem while synchronizing child node
”warning: skipping unrecognized parameter “pivot”
“warning…. and so on and so on….”
This is very annoying because it happens couple of times every hour. And happens almost always when I leave houdini open and do something for a while (eg write this massage) and come back and have houdini frozen
I dont know is it something that I do wrong, are my scene files corrupted after this save?

Ok,
Thats what had happened:
Cd (diffuse color) attribute is an atrribute of detail, primitive, point and vertex. In my case there was already a Cd attribute assigned for primitive. And in chierarchy primitve is after than poly or vertex, right?
So it was like this. Cd attribute (primitive) was overwriting cd paint SOP (vertex).
Added primitive SOP and deleted channels of color.
Works 100%

Yes, than the concentration of points is starting to fade and is equall on every face. The painted regior is still the same. When bias is on 1, the points concentrate on more detailed mesh (dense topology)

Hi,
I'm kind of new to Houdini. I'm trying to paint on the geometry to make point cload for further voronoi fracture.
1st i made point SOP and add all black (0,0,0). Than Paint and painted in red the detail i wanted. And after scatter SOP and in alternate attribute I made to ‘Cd’.
And the problem is the scatter didn't act the way i wanted. The poits are stronger where the topology is dense and the is no affect of the paint at all
